Raphael Assuncao represents himself when it comes to making fights happen, as the UFC bantamweight does not have a manager.
After reeling off six consecutive victories, Assuncao (22-4) believes the only fight left for him is a title shot vs. Renan Barao – and he isn’t planning on taking no for an answer.
“I’m not interested in fighting anybody else,” said Assuncao, during an interview with FOX Sports. “No other fight makes sense to me. I’ve been managing myself from the beginning, so if I don’t start speaking up for myself, nobody will.
“I won’t take any other fight right now.”
Assuncao (scored a decision victory over Pedro Munhoz this past February. He earned wins over T.J. Dillashaw and Vaughan Lee last year after two wins vs. Mike Easton and Issei Tamura in 2012.
“I’m ready to challenge the champ,” he said. “No pressure. I’m going to have fun. I’m going to be happy. I’m always happy fighting, but that will be a special fight.”
Barao does not have a fight lined up at the moment. He defeated Urijah Faber earlier this year.
