Joseph Benavidez Makes Tim Elliott Tap To End UFC 172 Prelims

Joseph Benavidez (20-4) was coming into this fight with Tim Elliott on a one fight lossing streak. He was beat by Demetrious Johnson in a UFC Flyweight Tournament Final to crown the champion. Johnson beat him via split Decision back in September of 2012. He then went on a three fight winning streak where he beat Ian McCall via unanimous decision at UFC 156 back in February of 2013; he beat Darren Uyenoyama via TKO in April of last year and then Jussier Formiga via TKO back in September of 2013. However he lost to Demetrious Johnson once again in a UFC Flyweight title fight via knockout in the first round back in December.

Elliot takes him right down within ten seconds in the first round of the fight. Benavidez switches up and gets to his feet. Elliot with a sweeping leg take down and they roll around a bit. Elliot lets him up and they trade strikes. Benavidez with more of a mix of strikes and Elliott going with standard right hand jabs. Elliot takes Benavidez down again (3rd time) Benavidez gets in the half guard of Elliott and goes for a guillotine. After a minute or so goes by, Elliott has no other choice but to tap.

Tim Elliott (10–5–1) was coming into this fight also with a loss in his latest fight. He lost to Ali Bagautinov via unanimous decision at UFC 167 back in November. However he is 2-2 in his last four fights. He lost to John Dodson via unanimous decision back in May of 2012. He went on a two fight winning streak; he beat Jared Papazian via unanimous decision back in December of 202, then Louis Gaudinot via unanimous decision back in August of 2013.
