Jim Miller Shows Off Submission Skills At UFC 172

Andrew Ravens

Yancy Medeiros

The two try to get a sense of each other and then Miller starts throwing bombs a minute into the fight. Miller avoids the wild kicks that Medeiros is throwing and keeps throwing strikes. Medeiros gets  kicked in the right leg and is hurt. Miller lands a right on the jaw that wobbles Medeiros. They clinch on the fence and Miller takes him down. Miller locks in a guillotine and finishes the fight. Medeiros never tapped, but rather passed out. Miller celebrates while Medeiros is coming too and can’t believe what happened.

Jim Miller 24–4 (1) has won his last 2 out four fights coming into this fight. He lost to Nate Diaz back in May of 2012 via guillotine choke; he then beat Joe Lauzon at UFC 155 back in December of 2012. Skip ahead to his fight with Pat Healy where the fight was overturned and was called a no contest at UFC 159 in April of 2013. Later that year he beat Fabrício Camões via armbar at UFC 168 back in December of 2013.

Yancy Medeiros was coming into this fight with a trouble; he was undefeated (9-0) until he met Rustam Khabilov where he suffered a thumb injury at UFC 159 in April of 2013. Also that fight was his lightweight debut. He then went on to face Yves Edwards at UFC: Fight for the Troops 3 in November of 2013. He won by KO in the first round. The win, however, was subsequently overturned when Medeiros tested positive for marijuana in his post-fight drug test.
