UFC welterweight Jake Ellenberger is scheduled to face Robbie Lawler at UFC 173, he was originally set to face Tarec Saffiedine at UFC 172. However Saffiedine had to pull out due to him withdrawing from this past month’s event against Ellenberger.

“For me there wasn’t a lot to gain,” Ellenberger told MMAjunkie Radio of a fight with Saffiedine. “I think with a guy like Saffiedine it’s like he may not be the most well known guy, but he’s definitely a tough fight. You beat him, you should have. You don’t or you don’t look good and it is what it is.”

Jake Ellenberger has won 18 of his fights by knockout, 8 by submissions and 6 by decision in his MMA career. In his last four fights he is 2-2. He lost to Martin Kampmann via 2nd Rd TKO back in June of 2012, he then beat Jay Hieron in October of 2012 and won the fight by Unanimous decision. He beat Nate Marquardt via 1st Rd knockout in March of 2013. However, in his last fight he lost to Rory MacDonald back in July of 2013 via Unanimous decision.

“I feel like I do better when I’m a little bit – with a guy like Lawler I feel like the best kind of comes out in me,” Ellenberger said. “When I fought (Nate) Marquardt I felt the same way. This guy is dangerous, this guy hits really hard. I like those.”

Robbie Lawler has won 18 of his fights by knockout, 1 by submission and 3 by decision in his MMA career. He made his UFC return against Josh Koscheck back in Febuary of 2013 and won the fight via 1st Rd TKO. He then beat Bobby Voelker in July via 2nd Rd KO and then beat Rory MacDonald at UFC 167 via split decision. He lost to Johny Hendricks at UFC 171 via Unanimous decision.

UFC 173 goes down MAY 24, 2014, from the MGM GRAND GARDEN ARENA in Las Vegas, Nevada.
