Daniel Cormier

Before he steps inside the octagon this Saturday night at UFC 173 against Dan Henderson, Daniel Cormier appeared on UFC Tonight and here a recap of his interview:

What’s the difference training to fight a guy like Patrick Cummins compared to a legend like Dan Henderson?

“I work harder, with a guy like Dan Henderson that is a guy who has been around the block a time or two. He beats everyone up and has won at every level. It’s an opportunity to pass the torch, Randy (Couture) and Dan (Henderson) and guys before us are the guys that we inspired to be. I want to be the wrestler of the future. My preparation has been great.”

What’s his mindset fighting one of his heroes in Dan Henderson?

“I still have the same mindset, it does not matter, Dan is just another road block in my road to the championship. As much as I like the guy, my admiration for him does not outweigh my deserve to be the champion. I want to be the champion, it’s all I want in the world and Dan Henderson is just another guy I have to beat to accomplish that goal.

With you want to be champion, are you looking past Dan Henderson in this fight?

“I would say that would be crazy, I know all the things he can do. I was in the on the team when he was in the Olympics, I know how much this guy has accomplished this guy is. I answer questions about Jon Jones because people ask me questions. I don’t care about Jon Jones, I don’t go to bed thinking about Jon Jones. I go to bed thinking about Dan Henderson and that’s where my focus has been. I am going to step inside the cage with one of the baddest dudes on the planet, I can’t wait to compete against him and I can’t wait to test my skills against him. And I can’t wait to beat him.”

How are you going to be Dan Henderson?

“I have a number of ways to beat Dan, you have to simplify it. Dan can knock me out, the only way he can win this fight is if he knocks me out. I can beat him out by wrestling him, I can out grapple him in the jujitsu area. And I can stand with him, I can win by a decision,I can win by a number of ways. Dan wants to knock me out and I will not let that happen.”
