Well, he has broken his silence over the arrest. As noted, Former UFC fighter Renzo Gracie and his cousin and fellow MMA fighter Igor Gracie were both arrested outside a New York City nightclub early Monday morning on May 19th.
Both Gracies and five other people have been charged with second degree gang assault after an incident that allegedly left one of the club’s bouncers with a broken arm. The alleged crime occurred at 1:30 a.m. Monday morning at 1 OAK, a trendy club in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan.
“I was in jail for two days, laughing. Enjoying every moment, said Gracie. I had a great time, to be honest. I couldn’t leave them. There was my fault that they were in there. I was the one who lost the temper. I lost the temper with a reason and why I’m gonna leave the kids in there?”
They face a potential sentence of up to 15 years in state prison.
“In reality, people made this thing become big. The (district attorney) saw me there and decided to call the press and make a drama that it was a gang assault. A gang assault is when three people beat up one individual and cause him serious injuries, which never happened.”
Renzo Gracie, last fought in the UFC in 2010 against Matt Hughes, but lost via 3rd Rd TKO at UFC 112. He carries a 13–7–1 MMA record. His first fight was all the way back in 1992. He has fought names like Frank Shamrock, Pat Miletich, BJ Penn and Dan Henderson.
