Just weeks ago the UFC announced that Wanderlei Silva – Chael Sonnen fight is off for UFC 175 due to Silva having to pull out, now Sonnen failed a random drug test and is off the card.

The fight that was supposed to happen at UFC 173, but pushed back to TUF 13 Finale and then to UFC 175 in July.

The two coached on the Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 and even had a fist fight on the show, which you can watch on the UFC Fight Pass.

Silva (35-12-1 MMA, 5-7 UFC) had to pull out of the fight with Sonnen (28-14-1 MMA, 7-6 UFC) and fellow Middleweight fighter Vitor Belfort (24-10 MMA, 13-6 UFC) will step in for Silva to fight Sonnen at UFC 175.

Well, those plans are off, ESPN originally reported the story.

NSAC chairman Francisco Aguilar: “UFC officials acknowledge irregularities in a recent random test,” the promotion stated. “Chael is planning on addressing the matter this afternoon.”

Sonnen is looking at suspension due to the failed test.

In May 2011, the CSAC suspended Sonnen indefinitely on suspicion of perjury during that December appeal. That suspension officially ended June 29, 2011.

Right now there is no word on if Belfort will stay on the card and will fight the named replacement or if he will be fighting at a later date.
