The UFC announced today that they have added a third bout to the UFC Fight Night card scheduled for Aug. 16 at the Cross Insurance Center. Sam “Smilin” Alvey will meet Tom “Kong” Watson on the event.
Sam Alvey, a recent Ultimate Fighting Championship signee who had been the reigning Maximum Fighting Championship middleweight title holder, will take on Tom “Kong” Watson in a three-round bout.
He was on The Ultimate Fighter in 2012 while splitting two bouts while competing as a welterweight. Alvey is 23-5 with one no contest overall in his career and is coming off four consecutive victories — the most recent, a three-round decision over Gerald Meerschaert on May 31 in Milwaukee.
Watson is 16-7 overall, but just 1-3 in the UFC. He’s coming off a split-decision loss to Nick Catone at UFC 169 on Feb. 1 in Newark, New Jersey. Catone (10-4) owns a 2011 win over ninth-ranked UFC middleweight Costas Philippou.
