Current UFC Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks (16-2 MMA, 11-2 UFC) talked about Rory MacDonald as a fighter and possible contender for this belt:
“He’s one of those fighters that he can do that to people. I’m not going to talk trash on anybody, but he makes guys feel awkward, But when someone is doing that, hey, you’ve got to know that sometimes you have to eat a punch to deliver a punch. Sometimes you’ve got to say to yourself, ‘I am paid to be an entertainer.’ In my fights it’s not if I get hit; it’s when I get hit.”
Rory MacDonald (17-2) has six knockouts, six submissions and four decision victories while he has been knocked out once. Prior to joining the UFC he was on a nine fight winning streak. He joined the UFC in 2010 where he beat Michael Guymon via 1st armbar at Fight Night 20 on Jan / 11 / 2010.
He would lose to Carlos Condit via 3rd TKO at UFC 115 – Liddell vs. Franklin on Jun / 12 / 2010 in his next fight.
After that fight, he would crank out a five winning streak with wins over Nate Diaz, Mike Pyle, Che Mills and BJ Penn. He would also beat Jake Ellenberger via unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 8 – Johnson vs. Moraga on Jul / 27 / 2013.
MacDonald would go on to lose to Robbie Lawler via split decision at UFC 167 – St. Pierre vs. Hendricks on Nov / 16 / 2013. In his last fight prior to UFC 174, he beat Demian Maia via unanimous decision at UFC 170 – Rousey vs. McMann on Feb / 22 / 2014.
