UFC Fight Night 46: McGregor vs. Brandao Play-By-Play Coverage & Results

Patrick Holohan (9-0-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) vs. Josh Sampo (11-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC)

Round 1: They come out swinging, Holohan circling by working the hooks. Holohan with a series of kicks. Sampo lands a big right hand. Holohan connects with a big right uppercut and Sampo drops. Holohan slides in and tries to finish. Holohan in half guard, landing hammer fist. Sampo attempts an arm triangle, but Holohan reverses, get’s Sampo’s back and locks in a rear naked choke for the win!

Cody Donovan (8-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) vs. Nikita Krylov (16-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC)

Round 1: Cody lands a big left, followed by a big right. Krylov runs after Cody and throws several punches. Krylov puts him on the fence, locks in double underhooks and wearing down Cody. Krylov gets the takedown, but Cody reverses and locks in an arm bar. However, Krylov slides out and Donovan gets top position in half guard. Krylov scrambles and they get to their feet. Krylov clinches and lands some serious knees, Cody slides out and we break. Cody with a double leg takedown and lands into full guard. Donovan gets up and we are standing. They clinch and exchanges. Cody lands an uppercut, Krylov kicks Donovan in the nuts and we pause. Back to fighting, Krylov comes out and lands a head kick. Cody lands a big strike and Krylov falls. Cody gets into half guard, looking to finish. Krylov holds on for his life. Cody gets the back of Krylov and locks in a rear naked choke, but Krylov reverses and gets top position. He ground and pounds Cody, who is exhausted. Krylov gets the back of Donovan and lands some nasty ground and pound to finish the fights just in the nick of time!

Trevor Smith (11-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) vs. Tor Troeng (16-5-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC)

Round 1: Smith shoots in, but Troeng blocks and clinches with Smith. Troeng drives Smith into the fence where he connects with a series of knees. They battle for a few minutes in the clinch and then break. Smith is throwing haymakers, but not landing. Troeng lands a big left, it hurts Smith, and Troeng lands a single leg throw. They scramble, Smith get’s the outside and presses Troeng on the fence. They get to their feet, Smith continues to land knees to the body of Troeng. They break, and exchange to the bell.

Round 2: They exchange kicks, Smith lands a straight right, but Troeng get’s a double leg takedown. Troeng transitions into mount, Smith desperately trying to scramble out. Troeng gets the back of Smith, but not for long as Smith scrambles to top position in side control. Smith goes into ground and pound mode. After a few minutes go by, Smith get’s to his feet, but Troeng is all over him and puts him back first on the fence. They break, Troeng lands a few jabs and shoots in on a double. He get’s it, but Smith pulls guard and get’s a guillotine choke. It’s not strong enough and we go to the third round.

Round 3: Final round! Both very tired. Troeng attempts a double leg, but Smith reverses and goes for one for himself. Troeng reverses and get’s the back of Smith. He works the strikes into his game, but Smith scrambles and get’s top position. Smith goes into full ground and pound mode. Smith passes and presses Troeng on the fence., he continues to rain down punches. Smith grabs a hold of Troeng’ neck, but is not doing a on of damage. This one goes to the judges.

Result: Trevor Smith def. Tor Troeng via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Mike King (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) vs. Cathal Pendred (13-2-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC)

Round 1: King gets a big time double leg takedown right off the bat. Pendred get’s to his feet, but King is all over him. They clinch, King on the outside and they break. King lands a straight right, they clinch and Pendred presses King on the cage. They break, King lands a big right hook, a right jab and Pendred falls. King is trying to finish Pendred with ground and pound. King gets on mount, he is still trying to finish. He gets the back of Pendred and locks in a rear naked choke. Pendred rolls through, King continues to lay on the punches. King is tired, Pendred is trying to survive. King is looking for a kimura, then a arm bar, but Pendred gets out of it! What submission defense! King is exhausted, they exchange to the bell.

Round 2: Pendred lands not one, but two overhand rights. King lands a nice left jab. King lands a front kick, but Pendred looks for a takedown. Pendred get’s a major league slam! King get’s back to his feet, King lands a big head kick, but Pendred keeps pressing. Pendred looking for a double leg takedown and get’s it. Pendred gets the back of King, he rains down strikes. Pendred locks in the rear naked choke and King passes out!

Phil Harris (22-11 MMA, 1-2 UFC) vs. Neil Seery (13-10 MMA, 0-1 UFC)
Round 1: Harris gets a double under hooks clinch, Seery lands a knee to the gut and breaks with Harris. Seery continues to target the gut of Harris. Seery lands a big right hook and Harris drops. Seery tries to ground and pound but can’t. Seery talks trash and let’s Harris up. Seery lands another big right hook that hurts Harris. This leads to Harris back peddling, the fans are awesome. Harris lands a nice inside jab, Seery lands a takedown, but let’s Harris get back up. Harris shoots in, but Seery brushes Harris off. Seery lands another big right hook, Seery is getting confident, but we go to the second round.

Round 2: Harris shoots in, but Seery shrugs him off. Seery lands a double leg takedown, but stands up and kicks the legs of Harris. They go back to standing, but Harris lands his first takedown of the fight. Seery get’s up and is firing. Seery lands over hand right over and over. Harris lands a left jab, but Seery runs over Harris and makes Harris fall. Seery lands leg kick, but is not going in for the kill. Seery let’s Harris get to his feet.

Round 3: Harris accidently get’s kicked in the nuts, but we go back to fighting. Back and forth from both men, not a ton of action. Seery has a cut over his right eye. Seery lands a big right hand that drops Harris, but cannot finish the fight.

Chris Dempsey (10-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) vs. Ilir Latifi (8-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC)

Round 1: Latifi lands a hard body punch. Chris looks a bit uncomfortable. Latifi lands a nice leg kick that hurts Dempsey and he falls. Latifi jumps all over him and the referee stops it!

Naoyuki Kotani (33-10-7 MMA, 0-2 UFC) vs. Norman Parke (19-2-1 MMA, 3-0-1 UFC)

Round 1: Kotani shoots in, but Parke stops it and throws Kotani on the fence. They break and exchange. Both can’t find their reach, Parke misses just barely with a flying knee. Parke throws a body kick, but Kotani catches it. Kotani shoots in, but Parke stuffs it. He get’s top position and lands strikes, but the bell sounds. Boring round, strong ending.

Round 2: Parke accidently kicks Kotani in the nuts, back to action. Kotani shoots in, but misses the leg and falls. They go back to standing, Parke get’s a dump slam and puts Kotani on his back. Parke get’s into side control. Parke lands some nasty elbows from top position. Kotani attempts a leg lock, but Parke panics and scrambles out. Parke goes nuts and lands a flurry of strikes to end the fight! Parke jumps out of the cage and into the crowd.

Ian McCall (12-4-1 MMA, 1-2-1 UFC) vs. Brad Pickett (24-8 MMA, 4-3 UFC)

Round 1: Pickett lands a left hook as Ian lands a leg kick. Ian clinches, lands a knee to the fce. However, Pickett knees Ian in the nuts and we break. Back to the fight, Ian lands a big right, they wrestle and Ian get’s a clinch. He lands a knee of his own. Pickett keeps grabbing the fence, Pickett shrugs off Ian. Pickett shoots in, presses Ian on the fence. However, McCall reverses and gets out. Ian lands a uppercut, Pickett just misses a wild right. They exchange in the pocket and we go the bell.

Round 2:Ian get’s a takedown, they scramble and Ian get’s mount. They scramble some more, but Ian is all over Pickett. However, not for long as Pickett get’s to his feet. Ian lands a straight left, Pickett swings, but just misses. Ian shoots in on single leg, but cannot complete the takedown. Ian lands a body kick, he throws it again, but Pickett catches it. Ian accidentally kicks Pickett in the nuts. Pickett lands a left hook, Pickett looks for a takedown, but can’t get it. Ian misses a spinning back fist, and we go to the third round.

Round 3: Ian lands a body kick, he lands a few jabs. Pickett rushes and clinches with Ian on the fence. He applies pressure from the outside, he continues to land knees. They break, Pickett trips Ian and get’s the takedown, but not for long as Ian pops right back up. Ian with quick movement, moves in for a double leg takedown. This one goes the distance.

Zak Cummings (17-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC) vs. Gunnar Nelson (12-0-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC)

Round 1: They clinch, Cummings working the outside. Nelson misses a knee and then a right hand as they break. Nelson throws a body kick, Cummings with a few jabs. Cummings with a waist lock, he get’s the back and puts him on the fence. Nelson reverses and eats a uppercut. They exchange to the bell.

Round 2: Cummings clinches with Nelson and puts him on the fence. A brief exchange, but then right back to the clinch. Nelson is being very lackluster, which is making the crowd a bit annoyed. They both land straight rights. Nelson lands a big straight right that stuns Cummings. However, Cummings presses forward and lands a nice flurry of strikes. Nelson throws a knee, but Cummings catches it. Cummings goes in for a takedown, but Nelson transitions and get’s the back of Cummings.Nelson locks in the rear naked choke for the win!

Conor McGregor (14-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) vs. Diego Brandao (18-9 MMA, 4-2 UFC)

Round 1: Conor with a spinning back kick to the gut right out of the gate. They are exchanging right out of the gate. Brandao shoots in, he clinches and puts Conor on the fence. However, Conor reveres and get’s the outside advantage. They scramble and Conor get’s the takedown. Conor in top position, Brandao looks for a leg, but Conor slides. Conor lands a series of elbows, Brandao kicks his way out and we are standing. Conor T’s off with a head kick and a flurry of strikes. Brandao fires back with his own. Brandao working the over hand right. Conor tags Brandao and Brandao falls, Conor fires away with ground and pound, the referee steps in and this one is over! What a homecoming.
