Rick Story has made several changes leading up to his fight with Leonardo Mafra at tonight’s UFC Fight Night 45. One of those changes is switching training camps:
“I thought it was a really great experience,” Story said. “It was the first time I was able to go through a camp without massive amounts of pressure over my head, and I was able to actually train and focus on learning and focus on what I needed to do with a clear head. Overall, it was a great experience.”
Rick Story (16-8) was once an up and coming fighter, but has an up and down career. He has 4 knockouts, 3 submissions and 9 decision victories in his career
“I don’t feel like I’ve slowed down, and I don’t feel like my recovery had gotten any worse,” Story said. “I actually feel like it’s just starting to get rally good because I’m starting to learn myself even more and learn what nutrition tricks work for me. It’s been a long learning experience.”
Story has only been finished once in his career and that came by submission. He is 2-2 in his last four fights and looking to get another win.
“I think anybody that you fight in the UFC is a dangerous opponent,” Story said. “If you look at it any other way, you’re probably going to get caught.
Story beat Quinn Mulhern via 1st round TKO back in March of 2013. He then lost to Mike Pyle via split decision in May, then got another win over Brian Ebersole via Unanimous decision in November. However, his last fight did not go to plan as he lost to Kelvin Gastelum via split decision
“I go for ‘Fight of the Night’ every time. If I keep going forward and the other person matches me, it’s going to spark. But I always end up coming forward.”
Story faces Leonardo Mafra tonight at UFC Fight Night 45.
