Anthony Johnson is only a matter of hours away from fighting in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 12 against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, but he has his eyes on the price as he knows he is not a top contender in the 205 lb division just yet.
His thoughts on fighting Antonio Rogerio Nogueira:“He’s a fighter; I respect that,” Johnson said. “He can end my night with one punch, submission, anything, just like I can do the same thing with him, so I have to go into this fight having respect. I don’t doubt anything that he can bring. I know the performance I had with Phil Davis, I have to have an even better performance with ‘Little Nog,'”
Johnson (14-4) has 11 knockouts, and 6 decision victories in his MMA career. He is on a seven fight winning streak, In his last three fights he has beaten Andrei Arlovski via Unanimous decision back in March of 2013, then Mike Kyle via 1st Rd KO in January of this year. Finally, in his last fight, he beat Phil Davis via Unanimous decision at UFC 172. This is a very quick turn around for Johnson, but he has said in the past that he wants to fight frequently and he is certainly getting that in this fight.
Is he a top contender in the Light Heavyweight division?
“I can’t even say contender. I just thought I was better than a lot of guys that were in the top-10. I’ll just put it that way. The word contender still hasn’t registered in my head and all that stuff, but I’ll take it if you give it to me. But I think my performance made a statement to everybody out there.”
