According to Brazil’s Combate news site, Glover Teixeira (22-3 MMA, 5-1 UFC) has verbally agreed to fight Phil Davis (12-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) is scheduled to fight at at UFC 179 in Rio de Janeiro. Sources say that the two sides are close to be making a deal, but the UFC has not made it official.
Phil Davis (12–2-1 was coming into his fight with Anthony Johnson at UFC 172 on a three fight winning streak. He beat Wagner Prado in October of 2012 via anaconda choke, Vinny Magalhães in April of last year via unanimous decision and then finally former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida in August of last year via unanimous decision. He lost to Anthony Johnson at UFC 172.
Glover Teixeira (22–3 now) was coming into this fight with a win over Rampage Jackson and dominated the fight with the Former Light Heavyweight champion for three rounds back in January of 2013. He knocked off James Te Huna in a submission victory and finished 2013 off in a strong performance against Ryan Bader with a knockout of the night award in September. The craziest thing about this guy is that he has not lost in eight years (2006) until he met Jon Jones. He lost in his first ever UFC title fight against Jones at UFC 172.
The UFC 179 pay-per-view is set for Oct. 25 at Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio. The PPV is headlined by a featherweight title between champion Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes.
