Demetrious Johnson Comments On Being Pushed To The Main Event Of UFC 178

As reported earlier, Officials announced on Tuesday that Jones will not be able to make a planned September 27 date with Daniel Cormier at UFC 178 for the belt. Instead, the fight will take place January 3 at UFC 182.

The new main event for UFC 178 will feature flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso. That bout was originally booked for later this month as a co-main event to UFC 177.

DJ made his UFC debut at UFC 126 – Silva vs. Belfort on Feb / 05 / 2011 against Norifumi Yamamoto which he won by via unanimous decision. He went through the flyweight tournament by beating Ian McCall and then beat Joseph Benavidez to win the Flyweight title via split decision at UFC 152 – Jones vs. Belfort on Sep / 22 / 2012.

DJ would defend his title three times and won all three of those fights. He beat John Dodson via unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 6 – Johnson vs. Dodson on Jan / 26 / 2013, John Moraga via submission at UFC on Fox 8 – Johnson vs. Moraga on Jul / 27 / 2013 and then Joseph Benavidez via knockout at UFC on Fox 9 – Johnson vs. Benavidez 2 on Dec / 14 / 2013. Demetrious Johnson def. Ali Bagautinov by unanimous decision at UFC 174 earlier this year.

The main event will be between FLyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson Vs. Chris Cariaso. UFC 178 will happen on September 27 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
