Jussier Formiga Defeats Zach Makovsky By UD At UFC Fight Night 47

Jussier Formiga (17-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) has never got a knockout victory, but does have 8 submissions and 8 decision victories in his pro MMA career. He has been knocked out twice, but never submitted. Prior to joining the UFC, he was on a five fight winning streak, but made his UFC debut against John Dodson, which he lost via in a 2nd Rd KO war in October of 2012. He beat Chris Cariaso via Unanimous Decision in May of 2013. He then lost to Joseph Benavidez in September via 1st Rd TKO. He gained another win over Scott Jorgensen in March of this year with a 1st Rd Rear Naked Choke.

Zach Makovsky (18-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has one knockout, 6 submissions and 11 decision victories in his MMA career. He has never been knocked out, but submitted 3 times. Prior to joining the UFC, he was 2-2 in his last four, but riding a 2 fight win streak. He beat Scott Jorgensen via Unanimous Decision in December of 2014 and then a win over Josh Sampo via Unanimous Decision in February of this year.

Round 1: A feeling out process early, Formiga goes for a waist takedown, he get’s it and has Zach’s back. Zach is scrambling, Formiga is doing a good job of holding on. Zach reverses and gets top position. Formiga fires away strikes from the bottom as Zach get’s in position. Formiga makes his way up to his feet and we go back to striking. Zach misses with a superman punch, Formiga clinches and get’s the takedown leading into top position. .

Round 2: Zach misses a wild right, Formiga just misses a wild head kick. Zach get’s a double leg takedown, but Formiga scrambles to his feet. Zach with a good one, two punch. Formiga with another waist lock that leads to him jumping on the back of Zach. Formiga get’s Zach down to the ground and has back control. Formiga is looking for the rear naked choke, but Zach is putting up a good defense.

Round 3: Zach keeps shooting in on a superman punch, but Formiga side steps and get’s the takedown leading into top position. Zach reverses and gets top position where he lands a big time right hook. Zach continues to ground and pound Formiga. This is how we end this fight.
