Machida (15-0) is 2-0 in 2009 with a first-round knockout of Thiago Silva and a second-round knockout of previous title-holder Rashad Evans. He’s scheduled to fight Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in October at UFC 104.
Silva (24-4) has looked lackluster in his most-recent title defenses, defeating Patrick Cote in October after Cote was unable to continue due to a knee injury and topping Thales Leites by unanimous decision in April in his most-recent fight. “The Spider” will move up to 205-pounds for his next fight against former champion Forrest Griffin in August at UFC 101.
