As Andrei Arlovski gets set to battle Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC Fight Night 51 this Saturday, the former champ has received some ‘tips’ from former opponent, Brendan Schaub.
Of course, Arlovski and Schaub fought one another at UFC 174 this past June, and the latter lost via a controversial, split decision. “Big Brown” appeared on the latest edition of “UFC Tonight”, and while discussing Saturday’s headliner between Arlovski and Silva, here is some of what he had to say (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“I’m hoping Arlovski doesn’t bring the same attitude as he did against me. He seemed scared and tentative against me. Bigfoot is a monster. Andrei was flat footed. Bigfoot’s going to come out, take him down, and TKO him.”
Yes, ‘monster’ is indeed a term many others have used to describe “Bigfoot”, both the mythological (or real…) creature and the heavyweight Silva. Arlovski also admitted to being extremely nervous during his bout with Schaub, which marked the first time since 2008 that he had stepped into the Octagon.
If Silva is able to take Arlovski down and keep him there for prolonged periods, then the veteran is almost certainly headed to another loss. That said, “Bigfoot” doesn’t necessarily need to get it to the ground to pull out a win. As Schaub alluded to, mobility and range are going to be the keys to an Arlovski win.
If you’re wondering, Arlovski is a considerable underdog heading into the bout, as the betting lines have Silva as the favorite in the -400 to -475 range.
Back to Schaub, earlier this week it was announced that he will fight Travis Browne, December 6th at UFC 181. Here is some of what the TUF vet had to say about the bout on “UFC Tonight.”
“It’s a big one. It doesn’t get much bigger than this. You win this and you’re right in the contender spot.”
There’s no doubt about that. The fight is a huge opportunity for Schaub to jump up and crack the top 15 ranks. Mr. Browne is currently ranked #3.
UFC 181 will be hosted by the Mandalay Bay Events Centre in Las Vegas, Nevada.
