UFC’s Matt Mitrione and Gabriel Gonzaga are Booked to Scrap

UFC on FOX 13

Although Matt Mitrione was reportedly interested in fighting Andrei Arlovski next, the TUF vet has been booked to fight another accomplished heavyweight in Gabriel Gonzaga.

The two will lock horns on December 13th at UFC on FOX 13, which will be hosted by the U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The heavyweight bout was reported first by FOX and has been subsequently re-tweeted by the UFC.

Mitrione has rebounded, and then some, from his choke out loss to Brendan Schaub last September, by taking out Shawn Jordan and Derrick Lewis. In fact, Mitrione’s needed just over five minutes in total to knockout both heavyweights.

The 36 year-old fighter, who has never fought outside the UFC, carries a record of 8-3.

Gonzaga (16-8) will be looking to get back on track, as the 35 year-old lost via unanimous decision to Stipe Miocic in January. Prior to the defeat, the former number one contender recorded consecutive, KO wins over Dave Herman and the aforementioned Jordan.

The only other man to defeat “Napao” in his last 5 scraps is Travis Browne.

So, there you have it. That’s a pretty solid addition to UFC on FOX 13, which will also feature Alistair Overeem versus Stefan Struve.
