Cub Swanson will have to go through one of the UFC’s best pound-for-pound fighters if he hopes to extend his winning streak to seven, as the promotion has announced he’ll battle Frankie Edgar on November 22nd. The featherweight scrap will headline UFC Fight Night 55, which will be hosted by Austin, Texas.
Swanson (21-5) has worked his way into the UFC’s #2 featherweight ranking, by scoring wins over George Roop, Ross Pearson, Charles Oliveira, Dustin Poirier, Dennis Siver and most recently Jeremy Stephens.
Edgar (17-4-1), meanwhile, is currently ranked #3 at 145, as the former lightweight champ’s coming off wins over Oliveira and BJ Penn. In February, 2013, Edgar was decisioned by featherweight king Jose Aldo.
That, ladies and gentleman, has all the makings of an outstanding fight.
Speaking of intriguing scraps, the UFC has also announced that Bobby Green (23-5) will fight fellow lightweight contender Edson Barboza (14-2) at UFC FN 55.
Green has worked his way into the #7 ranking slot, thanks to an eight fight winning streak, while the feared striker Barboza is #11.
UFC FN 55 will also feature a flyweight bout between contenders Joseph Benavidez and Dustin Ortiz.
