If you haven’t heard by now, not only did Dominick Cruz take out Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 178 on Saturday night, the former bantamweight champ did so in 61 seconds…if you’re not impressed by that, well, then perhaps you’re not overly familiar with the latter.
Sure, Mizugaki isn’t exactly a household name here in North America, but he is (for now) the #5th ranked bantamweight in the UFC. Prior to Saturday night, Mizugaki had scored consecutive wins over Jeff Hougland, Bryan Caraway, Erik Perez, Nam Phan and Franciso Rivera.
The only other man who had finished Mizugaki since he joined ZUFFA was Urijah Faber, who choked him out way back at WEC 52 in 2010. The dude is as tough as they come, and also as great hands to throw at you.
So, when you consider all that, Cruz’s win starts to really stand out, particularly since it was the first time since he’s fought since October, 2011.
Bring on Dillashaw-Cruz. How awesome could that fight be?
You can check out “The Dominator’s” dominant victory below, as the good folks at the UFC have made the entire fight available through FOX Sports. Even if you did see it Saturday night, why not take another look right?
