Following Rory MacDonald’s impressive, victory over Tarec Saffiedine at UFC Fight Night 54, the rising welterweight’s been calling for a title shot, but it sounds like Dana White was already convinced.
In a recent interview with the Canadian Press, White confirmed that MacDonald will fight the winner of the December 6th scrap between champion Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler. Sure, the UFC President has been known to make similar statements in the past, only to have that change, but this sounds pretty definite.
Here is some of what White had to say about MacDonald’s future and the win over Saffiedine:
“It’s pretty impossible to deny Rory that, whoever comes out of that Hendricks-Lawler fight, he’s the next guy in line,”
“I have a lot of respect for Saffiedine,” White said. “That’s guy’s tough to deal with. Rory just absolutely made him look like he didn’t belong there. He actually treated him like No. 9.”
It was indeed a memorable win for “Ares”. White also announced that MacDonald’s title shot will go down in Canada. Although he didn’t offer any details, the promotion is expected to hold an event in MacDonald’s home base of Montreal next March.
The welterweight title shot picture continues to be pretty interesting no?
