Earlier this week, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza’s coach floated the idea of a fight between the middleweight contender and the 44 year-old legend, Dan Henderson. Well, evidently the idea got back to the decorated fighter, and he’s outlined his conditions.
Souza’s coach, Josuel Distak, told Sherdog.com that he likes the idea of seeing the #2 ranked middleweight fight at 205 next. The reason being that Souza’s camp believes he’s earned a title shot at 185, and champion Chris Weidman won’t fight Vitor Belfort until February. Then Distak brought up Henderson’s name as someone he’d like to see Souza fight.
“Hendo” has responded, and while he’s down for the scrap, he added the following:
I would be more then happy to give Jacare what he wants. Except I would do it at MW and Jan 3rd. (cont) http://t.co/9RFrGSfyLV

So will it happen? Hard to say. Souza is on the mend from elbow surgery so January 3rd may be pushing it. The other issue is that Henderson wants the fight at 185, which would be great way for the vet to jump right into the title shot mix.
Really though, if Souza lost to Henderson at 205, his middleweight shot would go up in flames anyhow. So why not?
