Phil Davis has moved into the UFC’s top five, light-heavyweight rankings thanks to his recent win over Glover Teixeira, and not surprisingly, another contender is looking to jump on his success.
Yes, according to “UFC Tonight’s” Ariel Helwani, Ryan Bader’s manager told him that they’re interested in fighting “Mr. Wonderful” next. Helwani apparently touched base with Davis about the call out, but the light-heavyweight said he didn’t want to comment, until he has his hand checked out.
The decorated wrestler has been suspended for 180 days, or until a physician clears his right hand, following the decision win he scored over Teixeira.
So, that would be a really interesting match-up, considering Bader’s own wrestling skills and his power filled fists. “Darth” is currently riding a three fight win streak which includes victories over Anthony Perosh, Rafael Cavalcante and most recently, Ovince St. Preux.
Since Bader is ranked #8, one might wonder if the #5 positioned Davis would be interested in the fight, but really, most of the top 205’ers are booked for scraps.
Davis has gone 4-1 in his last 5 fights, and his only defeat during that stretch came against Anthony Johnson.
