If you believe Nick and Nate Diaz are two of the UFC’s most entertaining and notable fighters, then you have at least one thing in common with MMA legend Royce Gracie.
The ju-jitsu guru recently attended a Bellator media event, in Gracie’s new capacity as the promotion’s brand ambassador (it still seems a little weird reading that no?). Gracie was asked to name some fighters who best represent his family’s approach to combat, and according to a report from MMA Fighting.com, he relayed the following:
“I like their attitude,” said Gracie. “Their attitude. Their style. If they stand you up, they can exchange fists with you. If you go to the ground they are super dangerous. They respect jiu-jitsu. They know how to fight from the bottom. They know how to fight from the top. They are finishers. They go for the finish, they don’t go to score points. Their fights are what this sport should be.”
Yes, there’s no question the two have impressive boxing skills and ridiculously dangerous ground games, and the attitude they bring to each and every fight certainly resonates with plenty of fans.
Nick Diaz is booked to fight Anderson Silva on January 31st, while is younger brother Nate is scheduled to battle Rafael dos Anjos on December 13th.
Gracie also reportedly mentioned Fabricio Werdum, Patricio or Patricky Freire (he apparently didn’t specify) and Damian Maia as other fighters he appreciates.
Bellator’s next event will go down on November 15th in San Diego, California, and will feature Tito Ortiz taking on Stephan Bonnar in the main event.
The show will also see interim lightweight champ Will Brooks battle Michael Chandler for the promotion’s vacant title. The main card will be broadcast on Spike.
