Two talented grapplers in Marion Reneau and Alexis Dufresne went 15-minutes in what was actually a 15-minute striking clinic put on by Reneau. From the very beginning it was clear that Reneau had the slicker hands, movement, and just about everything else when it came to the striking game. Defresne offered very little in terms of defense as she stood with her head on a pole and ate right hand after right hand from Reneau.
Even though Defresne looked to be the taller fighter, her physical attributes put her at a huge disadvantage when pursuing the takedown. Reneau defended all three of her opponent’s takedowns and kept the fight on the feet where she shut down Dufresne with crisp right straights, and solid one-twos all night long.
Very exciting debut for Reneau who looks to be a potential prospect in the women’s bantamweight division. She basically fought a sitting duck in Dufresne who just lacked the technical striking skills to be competitive, but still, Reneau showed crisp boxing skills, hard leg kicks, and solid takedown defense en route to a unanimous decision victory which sported two 30-26 scores, and a 30-25.
