UFC’s Dana White Talks Jon Jones, Says Champ’s “Been a Bit of a Handful”

Since it was announced that Jon Jones had tested positive for cocaine metabolites, Dana White has been supportive of the fighter and his decision to undergo rehab, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t concerned with what’s gone down.

News of Jones’ failed drug test surfaced shortly after his decision win over Daniel Cormier at UFC 182, and so far, the light-heavyweight champ hasn’t received any disciplinary action (that we know of). ¬†Although White hasn’t been overly critical of Jones thus far, clearly the UFC President isn’t happy with some of the decisions Jones has made.

Case in point, while appearing on The Jim Rome Show recently, here is some of what White had to say about “Bones” (quotes via MMA

“My thing is whether you have a problem with street drugs or not, you say you don’t have a problem, there’s definitely something wrong if you’re doing that three weeks before the biggest fight of your life.”

“He’s been a bit of a handful,” White said about Jones, who was also arrested for a DUI in 2012. “He’s a young with an extreme amount of talent and has done some incredible things, but he’s been a bit of a handful.”

So, there you have it. Considering that White can be pretty bold at times, one could say he’s being somewhat reserved about this entire situation. While we don’t know what’s really going on behind the scenes here, it’s pretty hard to argue with some of these comments.

White also reportedly repeated that Jones will make a statement soon, which will provide more insight into what kind of treatment program he undertook. Earlier in the week it was reported that Jones spent just one night in a rehab facility, but White has come out and said there’s more to the story. The ZUFFA exec also estimated in the segment that Jones could have “15 million in the bank”…

Up next for the UFC is a Fight Night card in Boston on Saturday night, which will feature rising featherweight Conor McGregor taking on Dennis Siver.
