If you elected to pass on UFC Fight Night 59, because you figured Conor McGregor would walk through Dennis Siver, well, that did happen…But, what you did miss as a result, was some pretty wild, post-fight action.
If you haven’t heard, McGregor jumped the Octagon following his second round, stoppage win, and went straight for Jose Aldo. Security quickly intervened as McGregor got within reach of the featherweight champ, who, it should also be noted, didn’t exactly look concerned…
Of course, the reason for McGregor’s post-fight dramatics is because with last night’s win, he’s set to face Aldo next. Speaking to FOX Sports 1 after the bout, and McGregor’s antics, Dana White relayed:
“I was thinking security was keeping him from talking to his family. That’s typical McGregor. He looked phenomenal. What he did to two top 10 fighters, he’s relaxed and picks them apart.”
“There were a lot of people from Ireland here. There were a lot of Brazilians here too. I’ve said it before. He’s a huge superstar. He’s got a great gift. Boy can he fight.”
Yes, he can certainly fight, but many of McGregor’s doubters likely won’t be silenced until and if he defeats Aldo, or a noted wrestler like Frankie Edgar, Chad Mendes or Ricardo Lamas.
You can watch McGregor’s post-fight interview and him jumping the cage below.
McGregor (17-2) has won five straight fights now since joining the UFC, and currently sits in the #5 ranking spot at 145. Siver’s record fell to 22-10.
UFC FN 59 went down in Bostson, Massachusetts. In the co-headliner, lightweight Donald Cerrone emerged from a very competitive bout with Benson Henderson with a unanimous decision win.
