Considering how huge this Saturday’s scrap between Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz, it’s not surprising to see that UFC 183’s co-headliner is being overshadowed, but that doesn’t mean there’s not a lot riding on Tyron Woodley’s bout with Kelvin Gastelum.
After all, the fight features the #3 ranked welterweight in Woodley, taking on the division’s #7 positioned Gastelum. Woodley has come close to locking up a title shot in the past, but has fallen short against the likes of Jake Shields and Rory MacDonald. A loss to Gastelum would be huge setback and would likely send the powerful welterweight out of the top five ranks.
Gastelum, on the other hand, continues to storm his way to the top of the division, and the TUF 17 winner has won five straight, UFC bouts. If he can take Woodley out in impressive fashion, like he did versus Jake Ellenberger, then he’ll be in the thick of the title shot mix.
The UFC has released the “Countdown” segment regarding the pivotal fight, which you can watch below. UFC 183 will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
