UFC 183 Winner Al Iaquinta Booked For Next Bout

Al Iaquinta

It didn’t take Al Iaquinta long to get his next bout, following his impressive victory over Joe Lauzon on Saturday, as the lightweight’s been assigned to battle Jorge Masvidal on April 4th.

Masvidal was scheduled to fight Benson Henderson at the UFC Fight Night 63 card, but as you’ve probably heard, the latter has agreed to fight Brandon Thatch on February 14th. The change was made after Thatch’s original opponent, Stephen Thompson, went down with an injury.

If you missed it, Iaquinta put away the rugged Lauzon in the second round with a series of thumping punches at UFC 183. The victory was Iaquinta’s third in a row, as the TUF vet was coming off stoppage wins over Rodrigo Damm and Ross Pearson. The punishing striker has gone 6-2 now in official UFC action.

Masvidal (28-8) is coming off a decision win over James Krause in September, and the well rounded fighter has also won three straight, Prior to facing Krause, Masvidal decisioned Daron Cruickshank and Pat Healy. The Strikeforce vet has gone 5-1 since arriving in the UFC.

So, that’s a nice way to replace Henderson-Masvidal no?

UFC FN 63 will go down at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, and in the headliner, Chad  Mendes will take on Ricardo Lamas.
