Although some pundits have argued Cat Zingano will be Ronda Rousey’s biggest test to date, if you look at the betting lines, it doesn’t seem like that’s the case. As UFC 184 and Rousey-Zingano gets set to go down, the bantamweight champ is the betting odds favorite by a lot. Some lines have “Rowdy” at -900…
Rousey has pretty much cruised through all the opponents she’s faced, including other ‘toughest’ challengers like Sarah McMann and Alexis Davis. Zingano is indeed, a powerful, and extremely well rounded fighter, but she hasn’t crushed her competition in a “Rowdy-esque’ fashion.
Well, according to the accomplished wrestler and grappler, that’s because she hasn’t shown what she’s truly capable of. While speaking to the media this week in advance of tonight’s fight, Zingano relayed the following comment (quote via UFC.com):
“I just know what I’m capable of. Fortunately, and unfortunately, none of you guys have seen my potential yet,” said Zingano, who locked up a title fight in September by stopping Amanda Nunes in round three. “You’ve seen me come back and land some cool things, but that speaks nothing to what I’m capable of. And I just can’t wait to get out there and do more.”
It will be interesting to see what unfolds in the bout, and whether Zingano looks to put Rousey on her back, or engage her standing. One thing’s for certain, if Zingano has any doubts about her ability to end the reign of Rousey, she’s doing a damn good job of hiding it.
“I just know that when that door closes I’ll be looking at her and it will just come to me what I want to do. The reactions are there, I expect the unexpected, and I’m just gonna go. So far so good, I’m not going to change anything about me.”
UFC 184 will be hosted by the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
