The UFC has a few, big name rivalries cooking right now, and Ronda Rousey added fuel to the fire for her August 1st scrap with Bethe Correia, while appearing on “The View” Monday.
This past weeked, at UFC FN 62 in Rio de Janeiro, the UFC confirmed that Rousey will defend her belt versus Correia at UFC 190. For some time, Correia was campaigning for a title shot, and Rousey was happy to oblige, since the Brazilian holds wins over her buddies, Shayna Baszler and Jessamyn Duke.
Well, during Rousey’s appearance on “The View”, the MMA superstar reportedly fired off this Jay-Z inspired zinger, while discussing Correia (quote via FOX Sports.com):
“I got 99 problems but a Bethe ain’t one.”
Now that’s how you draw applause and capture headlines ladies and gentleman.
While Rousey-Correia makes sense, in terms of the storyline and growing rivalry tied to it, the consensus is that the latter has very little chance of defeating the champion. Rousey noted during the interview, however, that “No one is easy until after you beat them.”
The 28 year-old also relayed that in her opinion, women take fighting more personally than men, and that:
“When women fight, we’re programmed to fight to like protect our children. Men fight a lot for pride or status, but women, their instinct to fight, it’s for survival and protection of their children.”
Guess we’ll see how Rousey and Correia get along after they finally throw down on August 1st. That bout will headline UFC 190, which will be hosted by the HSCB Arena in Rio de Janeiro.
In the co-headliner, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will take on former light-heavyweight champ, “Shogun” Rua.
