Fabricio Werdum has showcased some pretty nasty striking in some of his recent bouts–cue footage of him taking out Mark Hunt–but the heavyweight has warned Cain Velasquez not to forget about his ground skills.
Of course, as anyone who’s followed Werdum’s career knows, “Vai Cavalo” possesses one of the sport’s most dangerous ground games as well (cue footage of wins over Fedor Emelianenko, “Minotauro” Nogueira, etc, etc).
The interim heavyweight champ is set to face the champion Velasquez on June 13th, and while appearing on “UFC Tonight” he stated (quote via FOX Sports):
“I think Cain has good boxing, good wrestling and good conditioning, but if he takes down me, I say thank you. I’m good. It’s my home. I think he’ll stay there. I’ll finish him.”
How about that for a prediction huh? It will be interested to see what approach Velasquez (who also has a black belt in BJJ) takes at UFC 188. No question.
