Things are going pretty, pretty well in the career of Max Holloway, and if the surging featherweight picks up another win at UFC on FOX 15, folks will really be talking about “Blessed”.
The reason being, of course, is that Holloway is set to take on Cub Swanson, who is the promotion’s #5 ranked featherweight. Holloway is positioned at #9, thanks to a five fight winning streak, which includes wins over fighters like Andre Fili, Akira Corassani and Cole Miller. So, clearly, if the 23 year-old can take out the highly regarded Swanson, Holloway will be in the title shot mix.
Of course defeating Swanson is easier said than done, as the 31 year-old is a ridiculously dangerous fighter, who until he ran into Frankie Edgar last November, had won six in a row.
So how does Holloway plan to defeat Swanson? Who has defeated established vets like Dustin Poirier, Dennis Siver and Jeremy Stephens in recent years?
Well, while talking to MMA Junkie.com recently, here is some of what Holloway had to say:
“Frankie showed me I need to get in his face and outwrestle him, but I’m not a wrestler, so that’s out of the equation for me,” Holloway said. “I’m going to go in there and do what I do best. And that’s being Max Holloway. I find a way to win no matter what. I’ll go out there and fight my heart out for 15 minutes if it goes that way and just leave it all in there. I’ve been training hard so I’m not going to just fall over. I’m going to go in there and have the fight of my life.”
It’s a scrap that definitely has “Fight of the Night” potential, and it will be fascinating to see if Holloway’s rise up the ranks will continue.
UFC on FOX 15 will be hosted the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
