Cris “Cyborg” Justino is reportedly still planning to drop to 135, but at the same time, the Invicta FC featherweight champ continues to call for a catch-weight fight with Ronda Rousey. The UFC and Rousey have said in the past that’s not going to happen, and clearly “Rowdy” isn’t budging.
Rousey has been making the media rounds lately, as a means to promoter her new book My Fight/Your Fight.” The UFC bantamweight champ appeared on “The Howard Stern Show” recently, and Mr. Stern asked the 28 year-old star about “Cyborg”. Rousey, in keeping with comments she’s made in the past, blasted Justino and accused the fighter of using PEDs “for a long time.”
Stern reportedly contended that Rousey could defeat “Cyborg” at 145 anyways, and here is some of what Rousey had to say in response (quotes via MMA Junkie.com):
“I have to think about what sends the right message,” she said. “I’m not going to do backflips for a cheating con artist. And to be honest, if you can make 145 juiced the f-ck up on steroids, you can get off of them and move down. This chick, her whole life, has had advantages that she didn’t earn.”
“Of course I would (win at 135, even if she was 145). Would I do that? No. She’d have to make 135 just like everybody else, and would have to be clean just like everybody else. There’s no reason she should get a special set of rules just because she cheated for a long time and got a reputation.”
So, there you have it. Clearly Justino will have to make 135 later this year, win a fight, and then a bout with Rousey could materialize in the UFC. If and when that happens, it’s going to be a huge, huge fight.
In the meantime, Rousey is scheduled to fight Bethe Correia on August 1st at UFC 190. “Cyborg”, meanwhile, is scheduled to defend her belt at Invicta FC 13 on July 10th. Her opponent is yet to be determined.
