Chris Weidman is widely considered to be one of the baddest people on the planet, but the middleweight champ clearly believes he has something to prove at UFC 187.
Whether it’s because Weidman has been heavily critical of Belfort in the past (yes, due to the whole TRT thing), or because the two have been scheduled to fight several times, the champ seems more fired up than usual.
In addition, Weidman hasn’t fought now since last July, when he outscored Lyoto Machida for the unanimous decision win. It was another impressive performance by the champ, but more recently, Luke Rockhold pretty much ran through “The Dragon” and finished him round two.
So, in other words, if Weidman wants to one up Rockhold, a big win this Saturday might just do it. Especially since Belfort stopped Rockhold before.
Well, for whatever reason, clearly Weidman is on the hunt for a memorable victory on Saturday. While appearing on the latest “UFC Tonight“, the decorated wrestler had this to say about the May 23rd bout (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“I’m excited. I’ve been thinking about him for about a year. I’m ready to get past him. Anderson Silva was on my mind for six years. I’m ready to run right through this guy, dominate him and make a statement.”
“It’s to move forward and be in his face, be the better man and dominate him everywhere it goes. I need to make a statement to 85ers that they don’t stand a chance against me.”
It’s going to be fascinating to see how this all goes down…
UFC 187 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
