Although Daniel Cormier and Ryan Bader have been making headlines with their feud, and turned heads with their recent press conference ‘incident’, the latter might not challenge for the 205 title next after all…
UFC President Dana White appeared on the latest “UFC Tonight“, and when he was asked about who Cormier will defend the belt against first, he stated:
“We’re looking at possibly Alexander Gustafsson next.”
How about that huh? Now sure, White said “possibly”, so nothing is set, but the comments likely come as surprise to many fans. After all, Gustafsson was stopped by Anthony Johnson in January, while Bader is riding a four fight winning streak.
But, “Mauler” boosters would likely argue that Gustafsson was booked for a rematch with Jon Jones before, but had to pull out due to injury. They’d also likely note that Gustafsson is the only man who has truly tested “Bones”, who has since been stripped of the title (following his arrest in April).
So, there you have it. Now it remains to be seen if and when Cormier-Gustafsson gets booked.
