A knee injury has forced Thiago Alves to withdraw from his rematch with fellow welterweight contender Jon Fitch at UFC 107 on December 12, according to Fanhouse.
Alves recently suffered a torn posterior cruciate ligament and will be out 3-4 weeks, likely returning to action in January or February.
Though Alves had sought to simply postpone the rematch until he was healed, the UFC will instead look for a replacement to fight Fitch at UFC 107, with Ariel Helwani telling MMAFrenzy.com that the promotion felt it wasn’t fair to make him wait further after he was bumped from UFC 106 last week.
UFC 107 is headlined by BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez and also features Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida, Cheick Kongo vs. Frank Mir, and Paul Buentello vs. Todd Duffee.
