UFC 188 started off violently as Mexican fighter, Gabriel Benitez, battered Clay Collard for three round.
Benitez’s striking from the southpaw stance proved too venomous for “Cassius” Clay Collard as all three judges gave the Mexican fighter the decision. Collard was never able to rely on his patented volume-striking as Benitez’s body kicks and inside low kicks had Collard in trouble throughout much of the contest. Collard was able to secure several takedowns throughout the contest, but guillotine attempts and relentless defense from Benitez thwarted any and all offensive efforts. Despite taking Benitez’s back twice in the bout, Gabriel was able to score was hard elbows.
All in all, Benitez’s precision striking was just too damaging for Collard. Benitez through a nice left hook to the body throughout the course of the contest, but his left kick to the liver nearly had Collard stopped. An exciting new Mexican prospect has just emerged in Gabriel Benitez. If he can sharped up his takedown defense, he could have some serious upside in the future.
