It wasn’t anything close to being the war that the Mexican crowd in audience was expecting between their own, “Dodger” Montano and Cathal Pendred, but the Irishman did what he needed to do to get the victory.
Moving to 4-0 in the UFC, Cathal Pendred used aggressive footwork, Octagon control, and a steady chain of takedowns to out-score the hometown prospect. Montano didn’t look like his usual self as the aggressive brawler spent more time circling around the outside than he did actually engaging. Outside of a single right hand in the second round, Montano’s entire offense could be summed up by a few leg kicks and side kicks to the body. Pendred controlled the center of the Octagon throughout the majority of the bout, put Montano against the cage, and grinded him down en route to his 29-28 unanimous decision.
While he’s not everyone’s favorite fighter, Pendred again proves that he knows how to get the W. He took the fight into his realm – wrestling – and used his physical edge in strength to chain takedown after takedown, and ultimately tire out the brawler in Augusto Montano. It wasn’t a very exciting fight, and the hometown fighter definitely had an uninspiring performance, but the Irishman leaves with the win.
