Hot prospects Johnny Case and Francisco Trevino were dangerously close to having their action prematurely stopped after an incidental eye poke from Trevino left “Hollywood” unable to see. Case’s left eye was forced shut, but miraculously recovered and captured the unanimous decision.
Despite having the muay thai background, Trevino found himself at a disadvantage on the feet striking with Johnny Case. The American strung together powerful punch kick combinations, and had Trevino on the retreat throughout much of the bout. Body kicks and potent uppercuts against the cage were on tap for Johnny Case. This lightweight scrap also featured several back and forth grappling exchanges. The bigger, stronger lightweight in Johnny Case was able to take Trevino down at will, but often found himself being reversed. Case had to battle through an armbar attempt in order to get off on his own submission attempts. But in the end, the offensive output from Case on the feet, and the powerful takedowns from Case were enough to capture the unanimous decision.
It’s hard to tell how much the eye poke took away from Johnny Case, but nevertheless he looked mechanically sound. Case’s striking is dangerous, and he showed some really good grappling technique too. Very excited to see what’s next for Johnny “Hollywood” Case.
Case getting better of stand up. Eye poke by Trevino. Case recovered, takes Trevino down. Passes, gets reversed, gets back on top after defending arm bar.
