UFC 188: Fabricio Werdum Takes Out Cain Velasquez in Slugfest

Fabricio Werdum

Fabricio Werdum and his diverse took kit put an end to the Cain Velasquez era tonight in memorable fashion, by tapping the latter out with a third round, guillotine choke.

Velasquez was able to land more than a few punishing shots throughout the fight, but Werdum bloodied the champ with jabs and nicely timed counter strikes. In round three, Velasquez was badly cut and visibly shaky, and attempted to take the fight down as his corner instructed.

As Velasquez blasted in with a double leg, however, the jiu-jitsu guru slapped on a guillotine choke, and the AKA fighter was forced to tap.

With the win, Werdum extended his winning streak to six and his overall record to 20-5-1. Velasquez, on the other hand, saw his fall to 13-2.
