If you have yet to mail out the invites for your July 11th, Jose Aldo-Conor McGregor viewing party, well, you might want to hold off…
Yes, the MMA world is currently reeling from reports that say Aldo has fractured his rib while training, and as a result, he may not be able to fight McGregor at UFC 189 as scheduled.
Globo’s Combate is reporting that Aldo incurred the injury early on Tuesday while sparring, and sources close to the situation have also confirmed the injury with MMA Fighting.com. Aldo apparently hasn’t determined, and or announced, whether he’s going to still fight. Rib injuries of this nature typically take three to four weeks to heal, so if these reports are accurate, then Aldo clearly wouldn’t be at his best come July 11th.
There’s been no word yet from the UFC regarding the situation. Considering how much money the promotion has spent promoting this fight, and all the buzz attached to it, clearly a postponement would be a huge setback.
UFC 189 is also set to feature welterweight champ Robbie Lawler taking on Rory MacDonald.
