If for some reason, there were fans still sitting on the fence, in terms of whether Yoel Romero is a legit, middleweight contender, chances are they’re not any more.
Yes, as you’ve probably heard, Romero took out Lyoto Machida with a flurry of battering elbows in round three of their UFC Fight Night 70 headliner. It was a huge win for Romero, but what made it that much more impressive was that he didn’t turn to his vaunted wrestling game until late in round two. Romero has showcased some nasty striking skills in recent outings, and did so last night, but most folks likely expected him to shoot earlier.
Romero spoke to the UFC after the bout backstage, and shared some of his thoughts on the win, which has left him right in the middle of the title shot mix.
