Former UFC welterweight prospect and “Ultimate Fighter 2” alum Josh Burkman (19-8 MMA) recently returned from a year layoff and posted a TKO stoppage victory during this past weekend .
Burkman’s victory came during the first round over “Ultimate Fighter 5” alum Brandon Melendez (22-15 MMA). The bout headlined “Throwdown Showdown 5” in Utah on Nov. 20.
The win over Melendez snapped a three fight losing streak for Burkman, who had not won a bout since a 2007 decision over Forrest Petz at UFC 77.
Burkman burst onto the UFC scene in 2005 and quickly turned heads in the welterweight division by posting a 4-1 record. The success soon died out after consecutive losses to Mike Swick, Dustin Hazelett, and Pete Sell. This string of losses prompted Burkman to leave the UFC and take a sabbatical from MMA.
