You know how we’ve been waiting to hear where UFC 193 will go down in Melbourne? Well it turns out it’s going to be at a ridiculously large stadium…
Yes, the promotion has announced that the November 14th event (November 15th in Australia due to the time difference), will be hosted by Etihad Stadium, which according to Wikipedia, can seat close to 60,000 folks.
In the official announcement, UFC boss man Dana White was quoted saying:
“Finally the UFC is coming to Melbourne in what will be the biggest UFC event EVER! There’s been a lot of talk about Melbourne, title fights and stadium shows. The UFC is doing all three at the Etihad Stadium in front of 70,000 people. Australia has been an amazing market for the UFC and to thank the Aussies for all of their support we are bringing the superstar of the welterweight division, UFC World Champion Robbie Lawler. He will be facing the always-exciting “Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit. Robbie Lawler is coming off of the most exciting title defense in welterweight history. We are also bringing the rematch of the greatest heavyweight fight I have ever seen between New Zealand legend Mark Hunt vs. Big Foot Silva. November 15 is going to be insane!”
In addition to the main event, and co-main event that White mentioned (Hunt-Silva II is the co-headliner), the promotion has announced that Michael Bisping will battle Australian middleweight Robert Whittaker at the event as well.
The card will also feature several other Australian fighters, including Anthony Perosh, Jake Matthews, Kyle Noke, Daniel Kelly and Richard Walsh, who will fight Gian Villante, Akbarh Arreola, Peter Sobotta, Ricardo Abreu and Steve Kennedy (who is also Australian).
That’s a huge, huge card, especially for fans “Down Under”.
