Dana White Explains Why UFC Passed on Ronda Rousey-Miesha Tate III

The UFC turned heads throughout MMA recently by announcing that Ronda Rousey will fight Holly Holm next, and now the promotion’s boss man is explaining why.

Ever since Miesha Tate defeated Jessica Eye last month, there’s been a lot of speculation that the UFC was going to tap her for a third fight with Rousey. Even though Tate has been defeated by the champ twice before.

Well, following the UFC’s announcement that Holm will battle Rousey on January 2nd, White spoke with the LA Times. While doing so, the UFC President said this:

“We were talking about Miesha from the start, then as we started sitting around we were saying, ‘Everyone has seen the Miesha fight already,’ ” White said.

“A third fight in a rivalry usually comes after the stuff we’d see in [Arturo] Gatti-[Micky] Ward,” White added. “With Miesha, the result has been the same twice. Everyone’s already seen that fight.”

White also reportedly added that he’s looking at booking a bout between Tate and Amanda Nunes for UFC 195 as well.

Chances are there a lot of folks who agree with White on this. Not only has Tate lost to Rousey twice before, but the second loss took place less than two years ago.

A big reason a lot of people were surprised by the Rousey-Holm fight, however, is because not too many people were talking about the latter contending just yet. Holm has done nothing but win since she transitioned into MMA, but the vaunted striker is currently ranked #9.
