Robbie Lawler, the former EliteXC middleweight champion previously announced for Strikeforce: Evolution, will likely return to the cage at the December 19 event in San Jose, California against fellow UFC veteran Trevor Prangley, according to MMA Weekly.
Lawler (18-5), who left the UFC following back-to-back losses in 2004, had been unbeaten in six-straight, including wins over Scott Smith and Murilo “Ninja” Rua, before being submitted by Jake Shields in the opening round of his Strikeforce debut in June.
Prangley (22-5) went 2-2 in the UFC between 2004 and 2006, but has won 11 of 12 since, most-recently winning the Shark Fights light heavyweight title with a first-round submission of Marcus Sursa on Saturday.
“Evolution,” which airs live on Showtime in the U.S. and on Super Channel in Canada, is headlined by a lightweight championship unification matchup between Josh Thomson and Gilbert Melendez and also features Cung Le’s return to action against Scott Smith as well as Matt Lindland vs. Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and the Strikeforce debut of “King” Mo Lawal.
