Georges St-Pierre fans shouldn’t start planning their “Rush is Back” party just yet, but the former champ has admitted he’s been thinking about fighting again “more and more”.
The 34 year-old Canadian has said on a couple of occasions that he’s thought about competing again, but St-Pierre has never committed to a return. In fact, at other times, GSP has said he’s quite happy with his life, outside of the cage.
Well, recently St-Pierre spoke with the French Canadian outlet RDS, and of course, he was asked about whether he’ll fight again. According to a follow up report from MMA Fighting.com, which did the translation, here is what GSP had to say:
“I’m starting to get the feeling, more and more, to come back,” St-Pierre said. “I watch the fights to see what’s going on in my division, and I’m staying in shape. It’s like a knife that I have to keep sharp just in case I ever decide to jump back in the mix. It’s not for sure that it won’t happen in 2015, but I’m not sure yet.”
So, this is pretty interesting news. A lot of folks, including Dana White, had closed the book on GSP making a comeback, but it sounds like it’s still a possibility.
One of the big issues standing in the way of a GSP return was the issue of PEDs, as he’s been an outspoken critic about the lack of regulation and enforcement. But, the sport has come a long ways in this respect, since GSP walked away from the game in 2013.
St-Pierre hasn’t fought since UFC 167, when he earned a razor thin, controversial split decision win over Johny Hendricks.
