Ronda Rousey has become the biggest name in MMA, and has developed a nasty striking game while being guided by Edmond Tarverdyan, but the champ’s mom has fired away at the coach in a new interview.
The bantamweight star trains out of the Tarverdyan led Glendale Fighting Club, and has repeatedly sung the praises of the striking coach during her UFC run. Well, Rousey’s mother, and fellow Judoka, AnnMaria De Mars, recently made it clear she’s not a fan of Tarverdyan.
While speaking to LatiNation recently, here is some of what De Mars had to say about Tarverdyan (quote via MMA Junkie.com):
“I think Edmond is a terrible coach, and I will say it publicly,” De Mars said. “I think he’s a terrible coach. I think he hit the lottery when Ronda walked in there.”
“I think she stays there because it’s like somebody pitches a no-hitter when they’re wearing red underwear, and they wear that red underwear for every day – and I think it’s superstition, and I would caution anybody from going there,” De Mars added, after noting Rousey was a world class athlete before she arrived the gym. “And I think it’s bad he uses her to lure people in. And the reason I tell everybody, and I told Ronda, ‘I’m not going to be quiet about this anymore’ – he’s a bad person, and people should not go there. And if he wants to sue me, that’s my honest opinion.”
Wow. Not too many people likely saw this coming, and it will be interesting to see how or if Rousey responds to the comments. All this comes not long after Travis Browne confirmed that he’s in a relationship with Rousey, and that story also quickly captured headlines.
Rousey is scheduled to fight Holly Holm in one month’s time at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia. The fight will be hosted by the massive, Etihad Stadium. Rousey has needed less than two minutes total to defeat her last four opponents…
