A matchup between lightweight contender Kenny Florian and former PRIDE champion Takanori Gomi, first reported earlier this month, could take place on March 31 at UFC Fight Night 21 in North Carolina, according to Fighters Only.
Florian (12-4), the runner-up on The Ultimate Fighter 1, lost to lightweight champ BJ Penn in August following six-straight victories, including wins over Joe Stevenson and Roger Huerta, but rebounded in December with a second-round submission of Clay Guida.
Gomi (31-5), regarded as one of the world’s top lightweights after going 15-1 between 2004 and 2008, dropped back-to-back bouts to Sergey Golyaev and Satoru Kitaoka, but “Fireball Kid” has bounced back with wins over Takashi Nakakura and Tony Hervey in his most-recent fights.
A location and venue have yet to be determined for the Spike-televised event, which will serve at the lead-in for the debut of The Ultimate Fighter 11.
